Things to help you out if u plan for a trip to usa

Some body said, "A wise man learn from his own experiences, but a wiser man learns from others experiences". So you.. :-)

I lived at Pune. I was supposed to fly from Mumbai International airport to USA in Continental Airlines. Continental Airlines has the luggage policy for economy class as follows:
1. Carry-on Baggage (some times known as Cabin baggage, This is the bag which is allowed inside the airplane along with you) :: 1 bag (18Kg and size can be max upto 130 cm (Length+Width+Height))

2. Checked Baggage (or Check-In baggage, This bag you can not carry/access during the travel after you check-in or submit at the concerned airlines counter security check at origin airport. This baggage is moved into the cargo section of the airplane and may or may not travel in the same airplane you are supposed to travel with. At destination airport you can claim/take your baggage.):: 2 baggages (23Kg and 153 cm (L+W+H) each).

If you live at Pune and you don't want to hire a taxi to travel mumbai airport. Then you have below options:
1. Some travel agencies have pick and drop facility from Pune to Mumbai airport. Like KK Travels. They provide really a good facility, just book over phone 1-2 days prior your travel. And they will pick you from your door step. It costs Rs 600 now a days.

2. If you have any friends in IT companies like infosys, you tell your friend to put a travel plan in their classified/ bulletin board. So that if any other guy is planning for a same day travel both of you can share..

Things you should carry before you fly to USA:

1. Winter jacket and Cold related cloths (if you plan for a longer stay).
2. Some medicines for common diseases.
3. Some snacks.
4. Indian grocery (If you want to cook yourself there)
5. Indian round top power plug to usa flat power plug adapter (If you want to use your indian electronics item, you will need this adapter. In usa male-female plugs are flat pin based)

These are few things i remember right now. Its not like that you will not get these in usa. You will get these in usa, but the thing is either you will get these at more higher costs compared to indian price and you may have to search and go miles of distance for these immediately needed things.

Yes, before travelling you should have some usa dollar in hand and some money you should carry with other convinient way you like (like getting a travel card or travelers cheque etc).
